FURNITURE MAINTENANCE

TABLE TOPS

FORMTEK, SOLID TIMBER, VENEER, LAMINATE, COMPACT LAMINATE and RESIN (SM France, Teckno top, Werzalit)
Wipe regularly with a camp cloth and alcohol based solvent or soapy water and a damp cloth. Do not use any abrasive cleaners or detergents. Do not stack tables on top of each other as this may cause scratches. Tops dark in colour should not be exposed to direct sunlight at any time.

TABLE BASES

Table bases should be washed down with hot soapy water on a regular basis. For more thorough cleaning a mild abrasive cleaner such as Gumption or Jif should be used. This only applies to bases that have not been powder coated. Powder coated table bases should be touched up with paint should any scratches occur. Please note that all stainless steel can 'tea stain' (light brown discolouring) this can be removed by rubbing lightly with Gumption or Jif.

TIMBER FURNITURE

Dust regularly using a dust free cloth. Touch up scratches with a matching timber stain, available from hardware stores.

UPHOLSTERY

LEATHER
Leather is a natural product and therefore should not be exposed to direct sunlight. Keep your sofa/chair far from direct sunlight and other heat sources (e.g. radiators). Dust your leather sofa/chairs every week, using a soft dry brush or a soft cloth. Stain removal - remove the stain as much as possible by quickly absorbing it with a cloth or absorbent paper. Avoid rubbing to much, as stains could penetrate the leather. Prepare a solution of water and neutral soap (max 2%) and wipe gently with a white clean cloth and repeat if necessary after a day or so. Do not use benzene, alcohol, detergents, abrasive substances or acids, nor too much soap since these agents may cause rings or make the colour fade. It is advisable to condition your leather furniture regularly - use a leather conditioner, this ensures leather will not dry out.

FABRIC
Spot cleaning: Treat spills and stains as soon as possible. Test on hidden area to ensure fabric and colour are not removed. Gently scrape any soil or mop any liquid from the surface of the fabric. Use of soap or detergent with water should be approached with caution since overzealous rinsing to remove soap residue may result in over-wetting, water marking and possible wetting of substructure (this may create other stains or damage products). Our spot cleaning advice is offered in good faith and should not be considered as a guarantee that all stains may be removed. For severe stains please consult a professional upholstery cleaning company.

For non oil-based stains
Use warm water and non toilet soaps which do not contain optical brighteners (consider Velvet soap, Lux Flakes, Softly). Mix a small amount of soap and warm water solution and apply to the stain, rubbing gently. Blot dry with a clean towel. Apply cool water (preferably rain or distilled water) and blot dry again. Then with a hair dryer working out from the centre of the stain, dry quickly to prevent rings forming. It is generally preferable to clean whole panels of fabric in this way rather than trying to spot clean specific areas.

For oil-based stains
Following the same basic guidelines as above, apply a proprietary brand solvent based cleaner and try to clean generally in panels rather than spot cleaning specific areas. A helpful industry 'secret' is for spot removal of oil based biro marks by the application of a conventional hair spray. To further enhance spot cleaning results, Warwick have introduced the Halo Fabric Care Kit which includes Halo spot cleaner for most household stains, Halo fabric deodoriser to help neutralise pet and general odours and Halo fabric protector to restore liquid repellency on fabric sections that have been spot cleaned.

VINYL
Regularly wipe with a damp cloth or vacuum with a brush attachment to remove visible dust. Do not expose in close proximity to intense heat sources such as bar heaters or direct sunlight. Liquid spills should be blotted with a soft, dry cloth. Other cleaning can be performed with a clean cloth and a small amount of mild detergent solution. No abrasives, solvents or paste cleaners should be used. A soft brush may be used, but excessive wetting and scratching should be avoided. Always remove excess detergent residue and allow to dry without exposure to sun or direct heat. Low strength solvents may be used for persistent stains, but their effects should first be tested on a non-visible section.
